It was a great honor for us to speak with Swedish melodic death metal band Abandon Agony, who are preparing to unleash their debut full-length album, Endbringer, on May 22nd. We had the opportunity to talk with them about the new record, learn more about the band, and discuss what lies ahead. Enjoy!

Hails and thanks for taking time to speak with us! How are things going in Abandon Agony camp?

Hails! Thanks for having us. Things are going really well right now. We’re in a very intense but exciting period with the upcoming release of our debut album Endbringer. At the same time, we’re rehearsing a lot and preparing for upcoming shows, so there’s a lot happening.

For those not yet familiar with the band, can you tell us how Abandon Agony came to life and what your musical vision is?

The band came together through a mix of previous collaborations and connections within the local scene. Some of us had already played together before, which gave us a solid foundation from the start.

Our vision has always been to create melodic death metal that combines aggression, atmosphere and strong melodies. There’s a clear modern touch in our sound, but at the same time it’s rooted in the old school Scandinavian scene that inspired us from the beginning.

You are releasing on 22nd of May your new album “Endbringer”. First of all, how do you feel about it?

We’re really excited about it. It’s our debut album, so it represents a big milestone for us. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into it, and it feels like a very honest representation of who we are as a band right now.

Musically, what do you feel makes Endbringer stand out? Are there any new elements or directions that you explored on this album?

We think what stands out is the balance between melody and intensity. There’s a strong focus on memorable melodies, but also a lot of energy and variation throughout the album.

We’ve worked more with dynamics compared to earlier material, using contrasts between aggressive and more atmospheric parts. There are also some progressive elements in the songwriting, which gives the album more depth.

Every album has its own identity. In your eyes, what does Endbringer represent for Abandon Agony?

For us, Endbringer represents both an ending and a beginning. It deals with themes like inevitability, transformation and cycles of collapse and rebirth.

At the same time, it marks the point where everything really came together for us as a band.

What can listeners expect from Endbringer, musically and emotionally?

Musically, they can expect melodic death metal with a mix of aggression, melody and atmosphere. There’s a lot of variation, from fast and heavy sections to more emotional and melodic parts.

Emotionally, it moves through darker themes like inner conflict and loss, but also touches on change and renewal.

Looking ahead, what is next for Abandon Agony?

Right now, the focus is on releasing the album and playing as much as possible. At the same time, we already have new material in the works and we’re aiming to get back into the studio this winter.

We want to keep pushing forward and developing our sound with every release.

Are there any live shows or tour plans coming up that you can share with us?

We’re playing Dödskarusellen on April 18th and May 2nd. On April 24th we’re also releasing our single Polar Shift along with a music video.

Later this summer we’ll be playing Sweden Rock Festival, which is something we’ve been aiming for and means a lot to us.

We’re also looking to book more shows and expand outside our local scene as much as possible.

Thanks a lot for your time. Please leave a message for our readers!

Thanks a lot for having us! And to everyone reading – check out our single Polar Shift on April 24th and the full album Endbringer on May 22nd. We hope you’ll connect with it, and hopefully we’ll see you at a show soon.
