Beyond The Veil’s journey began in 2020, and from very early on they showed they had no intention of following safe or predictable paths. The band is consisted of DB Karma, Yoshihiro Yamaji, Eric Fetterman, Keisuke Tsuboi and Dave Griffiths.
On May 1st, the band releases Oblivion through WormHoleDeath Records, an album that runs for over an hour…And this is where the easy words come to an end! Because Oblivion is not an album you can describe easily with two or three familiar musical labels.
In Oblivion, something genuinely complex is attempted: the blending of two very different worlds with completely different souls. With this release, the band clearly declares its deep love for the progressive sound of the ’70s and ’80s, while at the same time embraces the modern extreme metal sound! On one side, the warmth, melodic atmosphere and complexity of progressive rock; on the other, the intensity, aggression and darkness of thrash, death and black metal!
Mellotron, Moog and Chapman Stick shape the album’s sound and give it a distinct texture, a character that looks both toward the golden age of prog and toward the savage intensity of the modern extreme metal scene!
We are talking about something truly different, something that deserves your attention. Oblivion, however, is not made for a rushed listening session, and it is certainly not an “easy” album. It is a release that will reward you, as long as you give it the time and attention it deserves!
Beyond The Veil build their musical identity on contrast: aggression and brutality on one side, melody, atmosphere and a strong sense of the past on the other. And it is exactly through this clash that something unique is born.
I was left very satisfied, impressed and, I must admit, surprised by what I heard. This is truly something I did not expect to come across today, just before starting my listening session in order to write this album presentation. And it is refreshing to see new bands refusing to stay trapped in repetition, choosing instead to dare, to challenge through their art, and to push boundaries in search of new musical paths!
