Astray Valley : Interview !

This interview was conducted by Reckoning Hour / Metal Revolt team columnist Petros B. on September 25 2017.

Between mystical places and ancient stories, Astray Valley is a conceptual Modern Metal band born in 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. In 2016, Astray Valley signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chapell and record deal with Wormholedeath Records for the release of their upcoming album, which will be available in Europe, USA and Japan in 2017.

Hello thanks for your time! How are you?

Hello! I am fine, working really hard on the release of our new music. Thank you very much for having us!

What music or other influences first inspired “Astray Valley ” to get started?

Astray Valley had a lot of different influences from different genres. We also had a different lineup when we started, so the influences we had back when we started are also far from what we are now.

Some of us like more classic and melodic metal, some of us prefer modern metal, and some of us even like other genres that are far from Metal music. Everything converges in what we want to be now, in one way or another!

You are going to release your new album this year. How do you feel about that?

We feel really excited. We have put a lot of work in this album, and the process has been really long and demanding. We have bet for something different of what we were used to do, and we are impatient to see how people react to some of the new songs!

We are also preparing ourselves for everything that will come now: a lot of shows, a hard promotion and lots of experiences.

What we have to expect from the new album?

It will be a conceptual album, but we wanted the songs to make sense even out of the context of the album. It was a hard work, but we manage to express the idea and story through very detailed lyrics and atmospheres.

The album is very diverse, since the heaviness of the songs is related to its corresponding part of the story. So, we expect some people to like just half of the songs without knowing the concept of the album, but understanding everything after reading the lyrics and story!

We put a lot of work into the melodies, atmospheres and backtracks too, since we have used a lot of different instruments to create the ideas that we wanted to express.

Can you describe us the lyrical theme of your new songs? What inspired your lyrics and music?

The lyrics of the songs express the feelings and thoughts of the main character of the story, as well as the world around him. Everything is reflecting a real life situation, so it has a special meaning for each one of us, and we hope for the listeners as well. We can’t tell much about the story, but you can see the work put into the lyrics in our first single, “Singularity”. We have our new lyric video out in Youtube!

Are there live dates coming?

Yes, we have already planned a first tour in Spain, but after that we plan to visit other countries in Europe. We hope to meet a lot of new people this year and give them our message!

What’s next for “Astray Valley “?

Since we are crazy, we are already working on the future of our concept, but that is something that will come after a long time of playing shows and connecting with lots of new people to keep making the Astray Valley family bigger!

At the moment, there is a lot of people supporting us and we want to give everything we have to them, because they deserve it. So, you can expect new content after the release of the album, as well as new tour dates.
