GRIEVERS – The Eternal Pleasure of Revenge
Grievers is a melodic death metal band from Italy, formed in 2008. Their first studio work was on 2010, with the “Reflecting Evil” album, which contains 8 songs. After some line-up changes, the band did some shows in Italy, but they came back with a new studio work in 2017. It’s about an EP with 4 songs, called “The Eternal Pleasure of Revenge”, released by Sliptrick Records.
Well, first of all, the EP is great. There are four groovy songs, with a lot of Swedish melodic death metal and some American metalcore influences and progressive parts, like the amazing-weird-as-hell-jazzy-what-the-fuck part at 3:55 of the first song, called “Chapter One-Ade”. You ‘ll definitely love this part. You should. Another element that you will face, is the oriental hints at some points. The second track, called “Chapter Two-Blood Lord”, is more aggressive, more death metal, more “old school”. But it has modern elements, too, which is actually good. It’s not plastic, it’s not maudlin. It’s exactly how it should be. Catchy, melodic, with excellent vocal lines, beautiful passages and a great solo at 3:16, with this AMAZING bass line making it even more beautiful.
The third Chapter is the “Revenge” and it’s the longest song of the EP. 8 minutes and 42 seconds of great melodies and a few changes from the calm and clean parts, to the aggressive and groovy. The last song is the “Face to Face”, which builds an excellent atmosphere from the first second. The lead guitar in the beginning is very catchy and emotional. One more time, the vocal lines and the back vocals are doing a great job, the guitars are excellent, the bass adds a great melody and the drums are just as they should be.
I’m telling you, these guys know exactly how to do it. This EP is not just good. It’s a great piece of work and all the fans of this genre should check them immediately. I hope that in the future they will be more active as it comes to their studio works.
