Be’lakor – Vessels
I still remember the day when i got in my hands the debut album of a young band from Australia with a weird name… “The Frail Tide” was one of the greatest surprises for me and still one of my favorite debut albums concerning bands of melodic doom/death metal sound.
Be’lakor have evolved in an enormous way since then and their name is among the most important bands of their style nowadays. The quintet from Melbourne is back with their fourth full length release, “Vessels” and they seem to be in great form. The album manages to make an instant impression to the listener but also keeps some of its secrets for further listenings.
In comparison with their previous albums, “Vessels” is more straightforward, more melodic and progressive and it will certainly be embraced by more fans. The death metal background is always present and strong but in a way it will appeal to non death metal listeners. I don’t want to go to a track-by-track presentation as this album is a unique entity and should be listened that way. Don’t make the mistake and listen to one or two songs and try to judge it. This goes for most albums of course but a little bit more for “Vessels”.
If you seek melodic death metal with a more rock/progressive approach then this album is for you. If you seek doom/death metal that doesn’t bring My Dying Bride to mind then you should listen to Be’lakor’s excellent approach. If you seek for an album that is easy to listen but at the same time so deep and meaningful here you are again! And finally, if you want to listen to one of the best albums of the year before the lists at the end of 2016 then here’s your chance to do it now. Purchase “Vessels”, let it carry you away with its magnificent atmosphere, let it bring autumn in your summer, embrace it and you will not be disappointed…
